The "Flash" version of Bluewhite64 Linux is a Pen Drive which contain a bootable operating system. The Pen Drives are unique in that they have the ability to run a complete, modern operating system on a computer lacking mutable secondary storage, such as a hard disk drive.

Bluewhite64 Linux Flash reached version 12.2 and includes almost all programs from the Bluewhite64 Linux Install DVD, and packages made by the Bluewhite64 Linux community. The Flash is designed to run on a single or multi core AMD64 and Intel EM64T servers and workstations.

Since the Bluewhite64 Linux 12.1 Flash, we have added new packages and updated some of the already installed ones which fix one or more security issues. The Flash is powered by the Linux Kernel 2.6.27.10 with advanced features and optimized for performance. Also, you will find, the default window manager, the award winning K Desktop Environment version 4.2; the Mozilla Firefox 3.0.6 and Seamonkey 1.1.14 (including Flash and 64-bit Java plugins), the Mozilla Thunderbird and K-mail e-mail clients, the OpenOffice 3.0 suite, newly added Extreme Tux Racer, Battle for Wesnoth, Super Tux games; Blender - open source, cross platform suite of tools for 3D creation; the IA32 Emulation to run 32-bit programs; ALICE managers to easily configure your operating system; BW64Installer to install the Bluewhite64 Linux 12.2 Flash on to your HDD and many more.

Bluewhite64 Linux 12.2 Flash Main features.
Bluewhite64 Linux Server. Once the Fash is running you can configure and use different Server services like: Bind - Domain Name Server; Samba - share your partitions on a Windows LAN; CUPS - setup local and remote printers; AMP (Apache2/PHP/MySql) server; e-mail server (Sendmail) and many more.

HDD installation. BW64Installer is a GUI based installation program for installing the live media versions of Bluewhite64 to your hard-drive. It uses a kdialog based GUI and makes the installation process simple and largely automated.

Open Source development. Whether you choose the CLI or GUI, you can take use text editors, compilers (GCC, C + +, Fortran, Ada, GCJ, Objective-C), debuggers (gdb and strace), libraries, suite of tools for creating 3D animation (Blender), Open Source IDE - universal tool for development (Eclipse) and may more.

3D Desktop effects. After installing the video drivers from the manufacturer (nVidia, ATI, etc.), or you have a 3D supported video card, you can enjoy 3D effects offered by KDE 4.2. They can be activated in Settings System - Desktop Effects. A few 3D effects include: Cube, Cylinder, Sphere, and more.

Internet and multimedia. You can surf the internet, read e-mail, edit office documents, listening to music, view a movie or watch TV, write CD/DVDs. You have 3 browsers (Mozilla Firefox, SeaMonkey and Konqueror - flash and java ready), e-mail clients (KMail and Mozilla Thunderbird), instant messaging clients (Kopette, Pidgin), media players (Mplyer, Xine, Audacious), Openoffice.org office suite, burn CDs/DVDs using K3B 1.05 with the KDE3 compat packages, and more.

Games. Besides the famous games from KDE 4.2, I have included some new games, packages created by the Bluewhite64 Linux Community. Extreme Tux Racer, Battle for Wesnoth and Super Tux is ready to help you spend good minute relaxation and fun.

System Settings. Even if you are beginner and do not know how to adjust various system settings, you can take the ALICE (Advanced Linux Installation and Configuration Environment) which includes 6 managers: Diskmanager (easily partition a HDD), Netmanager (configure IP, PPPoE settings ) Pkgmanager ( packages manager in apt-get style), Servmanager (determine what services start at boot), Timemanager (set time and time zone), Xorgmanager (configure your video card, monitor, resolution, mouse, keyboard). These managere is located in the KMenu section under the System Section. Other system settings can be made by accessing System Settings.

System updates. I you decide to install the Flash in to your hard disk, then you can use slackpkg, ALICE pkgmanager or slapt-get to keep your system up to date.

Bluewhite64 Linux 12.2 Flash Tips & Tricks.
1) Basically, the network setup is automated if you are using DHCP and the network card driver is loaded at startup. If this is not happen then you have to check if the driver is loaded (use lsmod) and if not the you have to load it manually (modprobe). Then, you can use WICD or ALICE netmanager to set up your IPs.

2) When using the "BW64Installer", after the installation is done, the system will restart automatically! Also, will overwrite the MBR and will display only Bluewhite64 Linux. In case you have another operating system then you must run 'liloconfig' to add to boot other operating systems.

3) The "BW64installer" works only with ext2/ext3 filesystem!

4) There is no password set for user "root" and "bluewhite64. If the system requires any password continue by pressing Enter.

5) CLI programs that require root privileges, they can be run using 'sudo program'. For graphical (GUI) that require root privileges, they can be run using 'kdesu program'.

6. While Bluewhite64 Linux 12.2 Flash boots, you will be asked if you want to auto configure the X Server. Use "y" for yes and "n" for no. If you chose not auto configure or if you failed to configure, reboot and choose "n". In this case it will use minimal settings (vesa). In case you have an nVidia video card, it may not correctly display the Desktop (the driver "nv" in X.org is not compatible with KDE 4.2). Install the nVidia drivers or use the option "n".

7. On some systems, the sound is set to the default 0. Use Kmix (system tray) to unmute.
